Our History & Foundation
Sri Shakti Academy began as a Sri Shakti Dance Company, founded by Priyadarshini Ghosh Shome, Nilima Bhat, Ranjini Menon and Neesha Jhaveri. Each a dancer, choreographer and producer, with a foundational practice in Mohiniattam, Integral Yoga, Bharatanatyam and Kathak, respectively.
With a mission to demystify ancient Indian wisdom and wellness traditions for international audiences, the dance company undertook three seminal productions in Hong Kong, between 2004 and 2007, called Panchabhoota - Dance of the Five Elements, Vama - The Feminine and Tao of the Heart.
Together, this trilogy established the physical and metaphysical founding principle of Indian Classical Dance and Yoga. Showcasing them as paths and practices to self-mastery and selfless service, that they essentially are.
Taking these founding principles, Neesha, Ranjini and Priyadarshini went on to set up the Sri Shakti Academy, to propagate this Indian heritage and tradition in HK and beyond, by training students, conducting lecture-demonstrations and evolving and presenting several performances and productions since.
